The Letter R, a day of 4 year old Preschool

How is it already the end of April?? We have so much to learn in four year old preschool. The best part of being a home school parent, the schedule is ours! We typically take 30-45 minutes to have a school day, anytime of the day. When I planned four year old preschool, I made plans through the end of May. After child one graduated from four year old preschool, I wrote five year old preschool to last only until the beginning of May. You live, you learn. You know!?

I am a teacher by diploma. When I was studying for my Master’s, I wrote a curriculum for preschool. All of the other teachers’ completing the course had classrooms, not me, I had a toddler at home. That is why I wrote out a usable curriculum. Unfortunately for my readers, I did not start a blog site until we were well into the four year old preschool year. Next September when we start school, there will be a complete year of school documented. Maybe if I ever get an extra moment (don’t hold your breath!), I’ll share the curriculum in whole with a supply list. This seriously might be a few years. I’ve got photo album goals for the summer!

Wow, I’m rambling…lets discuss the letter R! We started off the day using my favorite app, Letter School! Worth it, pay for it. You won’t regret it.

R is for rocks, so we took a trip outside to some landscaping, and gathered rocks. I told Sammy to gather nine of his favorite rocks since nine is our number.

Then it was back inside to watch our letter R video. If you want to step your preschool teaching up a notch, you can join abctwiggles.com for a small fee.  With this membership, you will have access to awesome videos, printables, games, and activities.

Our next activity was a printable from ABC Twiggles. Sam loves these mazes! He was so excited because there were two mazes. 😉

Number recognition was next. I took some plastic Easter eggs and wrote numbers on each.

Sam had to match the numbers up. This doubled as a good fine motor activity.

Sam then practiced writing the letter Rr on two different printables from ABC T.

On  a new letter day, I have Sam use this great magnetic board from Handwriting Without Tears. I didn’t buy this for our older son, so this is a new toy for Mom this year. I love it, and recommend it. Its another great way to practice letter making.

Opposites were our next subject for the day. I have used contact paper a TON for preschool. Take a portion of contact paper, leave the sticky side exposed and then things stick to it. Kids love this. I drew two circles, one for big, one for small. I took a handful of pom poms and had Sam sort them. He thought this was great.

We worked on a page for our letter book, next: Rr is for Rainbow.

Sam played with foam magnets next. He was building a train.

To end the day, we read Trash and Recycling, since Recycling starts with R.
