Somethings in life just work out the way they are supposed to, you know? I like to control things, but God often reminds me that I’m not in charge. I need that reminder!! So, when it was raining on this R day, I thought, “Wow! That worked out!”
Today was our second day learning about the letter R, but according to my schedule it was day three and four. This is two school days crammed together (it’s a timing thing in this house, ALWAYS!).
I made a huge attempt to lay the baby down, fail! So, while I was doing that, I had Sam watch a Recycling video on KidTube. If you are unfamiliar, Kid Tube is run by YouTube, but is 99% safe for kids!!! Download it!
When I came back, with the baby, I told Sam we were going to try the letter R. R is for radish, he’d never tried one.

He wasn’t impressed. Notice the stamp on his head? Its our return address .🙈
Salt made them better.

Practicing writing the letter R was up next. I get these printables from abctwiggles.com. I always make Sam use a crayon or marker. He has more control over a bigger object like this, at the age of four.

Meanwhile…this child, whom should have been napping, was taking all the trash bags out. At least this was a clean activity. 😉

Find the Letter R. Another printable from abctwiggles.com.
We use paint dobbers when we find these letters, which both of my kids have loved!!

A puppet show was next. I demonstrated on one side and told a short story, Sam then followed. He loved this!!!

Puppets, not ours, but these would be great:https://amzn.to/2r1UT5Q
We talk a lot about different professions, today we talked about a Veterinarian. I take my kids almost everywhere I go, so Sam has been to the vet. While we read we made connections to our last trip. Making connections to real life experiences helps children better comprehend what is being read.

I made a giant R with painters tape, and told Sam to race his cars around on the R.
Invest in painters tape if you teach at home!!

A truck also had to race around. 🙂

Cutting, pasting and recognizing what each word starts with, was next.

Our final activity was an opposite foot walk.
I read the words, tried to get Sam to guess the opposite, and he stepped.
He did not guess correctly, which is fine!! But we will play this game again, so he can get the hang of it.

Happy Teaching and Learning!
