I try to teach as much school outside, as possible. This is a race car alphabet track.

Simply write out the alphabet with sidewalk chalk. Then have your little one race something along the track: truck, trike, their own feet. We sang the song as we raced, several times. The goal is to work on letter recognition.

This next activity is something we have done several times in the school year. It is a favorite, and I’m always adding numbers to it. This is Number Parking Garage.

Grab a flat piece of cardboard, a piece of paper, anything that you can write on. Make rows of numbers (parking stalls). Then use stickers or painters tape to write numbers on cars, trucks, trains, tractors, whatever you have an abundance of.

Your little one will drive the car to the correct number. The first garage I ever made for Sam, the numbers only went up to 10. On this day, we went to 24.

On our second day of a new letter, we always watch one of the videos from http://www.abctwiggles.com

The next thing we did was: Sorting.
I found a bunch of “stuff” or junk around the house and had Sam sort into two categories: Soft or Hard.

Today we talked about being Responsible, then read this short book.

Little Critter Books are my FAVORITE! This book teaches responsibility, too!

We played with an umbrella in the house, don’t tell my superstitious dad!!
I would yell out U word directions: “Go Under” “Twirl the Umbrella”
“Make the umbrella go Up”.

Using these awesome wood pieces next, Sam built the letter U.

Pretend play was up next. I told Sam he was the Veterinarian. He really enjoyed working on Brittany, the real stuffed animal. 😉

Pretend Play is SOOO important. Make sure to enourage this behavior in little kids. 🙂

The last thing we did was make roads with pieces of cardboard. This is a simple, fun thing for kids. I’m all about free play here!!

Happy Playing!
