The Letter Z, counting to 10 and Painting

img_0459To start our day, we planted some vegetable plants. This is the only way I can garden at this stage in my life. We had a veggie garden like this last year, and my kids LOVED it. This makes gardening a breeze!!

img_0465I know we are nearing the end of preschool, because we talked about our last number, 10! Just because your child can rattle off numbers up to 50, doesn’t actually mean they understand exactly what 50 is “worth”. The same rules applies for the ABC Song. It’s just a song. I keep this in mind when I’m teaching four year old preschool. We talk about one number a month, and we really talk about it, and practice counting actual objects. While making dinner, or driving in the car, we discuss that number and count things we see. We used the Letter School App to practice writing the number, 10.

Then we practiced counting objects. We used Popsicle sticks. When Sam is counting, he gets excited to say the numbers and they just come pouring out of his mouth, faster than his hands can keep up. So, we have to count to 10 several times, each time a little slower. 😉

I love Lego Duplo. I think it reminds me of when my eldest was tiny and loved to build with the Duplo blocks. Now he builds with smaller Legos. Any way, now that I’m crying, let’s discuss preschool. I had Sam make several towers of 10. He loved this!

We are working on the final pages of our Handwriting without Tears book. This was the 10 page. Have I mentioned how much I LOVE Handwriting without Tears?? It was my best discovery for teaching kids to write.

A “movie” from abctwiggles.com was next, all about the letter Z!

Our shape today was: crescent. This is the only “moon” in this house. This is a SIMPLE, fun game. Kids can play with it alone, or with someone.

We completed another page in our HWT workbook. This was a number review.

I couldn’t think of one food besides Zucchini, to taste the letter Z. So, we just made a Z out of cookies.

This printable is from abctwiggles.com , Sam LOVES to use these Paint Dobbers (https://amzn.to/2KV1SGn) to locate the letters.

Our last activity was a painting project. Have I mentioned how often we use painters tape in preschool? It is a staple! For this project, I recommend using card-stock (or in my cheap case, an old file folder ;)).

Let your little one paint all over, and when the paint is dry, remove the tape. Sam was SOOOO proud of this!

Happy Teaching,
