We are off to a great start!! We had school again today. Sometimes life gets in the way of school, so school gets skipped. We live by the rule: Sam is only five, so if there is something else going on, School is second.
We always start with calendar, weather and the Lord’s Prayer.
Sam chose a puzzle today while I prepared school. He completed 97% of the puzzle alone. However, it is important to give clues to a five year old such as: do you see anymore pieces with that color? or look for a flat piece.

Next up, pretend play. We played Airplane. Sam drove first. I ate peanuts.

Then Sam spoke on the radio to the passengers.

When I flew the plane, the passenger ate crackers and hopped from seat to seat.

Apple tasting next. We talked about our senses while eating the apple. Was it crunchy? Is is sweet? What color?

We made an apple wreath next. Sam stamped apples on a paper sack.

Then Sam painted stems on top.

After school when the paint dried, I cut the apples out and glued them together.

I love fall books, probably because I love fall!! This one is so cute!

We played cheeseball Math next.
I sprayed shaving cream on a pan.
Then I wrote out simple Math problems.
Sam thew in the first number, then the second. I had him count all the cheese balls for a total number.

The last thing I had Sam do was paint around the hole I cut out. Just painting circles. This is a fine motor building skill.
I told Sam school was over. He was sad, and said, “That’s it? Can we do more?”

Day 2 for the week.
Sam chose a puzzle again today. This is not a puzzle I would recommend. It’s a Target brand puzzle, and it is not user friendly for little fingers. Puzzles are like shoes, invest in good quality. Melissa and Doug brand have the best puzzles.

After calendar and the Lords Prayer, we made an Angel. A is for Angel.
I cut an angel outline out of construction paper.
Then I put a sheet of contact paper underneath the outline. Contact paper is essential in my preschool program, we use contact paper quite often.
I gave Sam two bottles of glitter and we went outside so he make his angel sparkle.

I absolutely love this book. Apple Pie that Papa Baked is one of my favorite fall books.

A Friend for All Seasons is a book that explains the change in seasons very simply for young leaners.

Counting practice was up next. Sam has come so far from last year with counting.
I drew a number line. Sam was instructed to gather rocks for each number.

We practiced counting again in the house in a similar way. This time we used Legos.

To end our day we played a game. Sam loves this game. This is not my favorite game, but most five year olds that like Paw Patrol will enjoy it. 😉

Day 3 for the week.
Sam started out with the opposite game as his choice of activities.
I divided the two opposite cards up, because Sam cannot read. This makes this game more manageable for a five year old.

Next we did our daily routine of completing the calendar, discussing the weather and praying the Lords Prayer.
We started off reading a fall book, Lucky Leaf- https://amzn.to/2QtxVk3
A Math game to learn about tallies and adding was our next game.

When Sam would shoot a cup, he would tell me the number. Then we would make tallies to count out the number. We continued this game until all of the cups were down.

Since we were on a shooting streak, we continued. I filled a shallow pan with baking soda. Sam chose five colors of food coloring and I dropped them in. Then he shot them with a vinegar filled squirt gun.

A is for ant. This is our fancy ant. Crafts are not my forte. 😉
While Sam painted the Ant, we watched and sang along to The Ants go Marching.

Then we Pom Pom painted. This is just for fun and a new way to paint.

We ended the day reading The Lady with the Alligator Purse. This has been a fun favorite since my kids were babies.

Day 4
Sam went to Husker Harvest Days one day this week, so we skipped school one day. Getting to look at farm equipment with his cousin was more exciting than a day at home. ☺️
Sam chose a homemade counting puzzle for his activity while I prepared school.

We filled in our calendar, checked the weather then prayed the Lord’s Prayer.
Our first activity for school was this alphabet tree. I’ve used this tree before in school, I keep my activities in a safe place so I can use them again.
Sam’s job was to find a letter and say the name. For example- little l or big Q.

Just in case you’ve forgotten, my preschool crafts look like preschool crafts, because a preschool student is making them. 😉
I cut out an apple shape from a grocery bag. Sam’s job was to practice his cutting skills and cut red paper and then glue it on the Apple.

Apple Farmer Annie was next. Sam loves this book. It’s quite a simple book, but something about it makes Sam love it.

We tasted the letter A next, because I had it written down and because the book made Sam hungry for an apple.

Sam worked on yarn wrapping next. I cut out some shapes from old files. I wanted to use a card stock like material. Then I showed him how to wrap yarn around the shape. Activities like this strengthen his fine motor skills for writing.

This was possibly the best part of the day! Sam loves to play Old Maid!
Card games allow number recognition and matching skills. Games are a great way to teach!

For some writing practice, I ordered this preschool book. This might also get brought along in the car and to church.

Our last activity was numbers in nature. I gave Sam a stack of Apples with numbers written on them. He had to find 1 of something, 2 of something, etc. Here are a few pictures.
One bush.

Four flowers.

Three bushes.

That is a wrap on a week of preschool.
