Homeschool

5 Year Old Preschool week 4

September is coming to an end! Why do my favorite months fly by? Actually why do these years fly by? I love having little kids in our home. The thought of them leaving me someday breaks my heart. I need to keep repeating- let them be little!

Sam chose these linking shapes as his beginning activity. We talked about patterns and then we made one long link.

B is for boat, so Sam played with boats in the sink for a while.

Next we read Stanley at Sea. While we read we talked about all of the words that started with B in the book.

B is for Bear. We glued teddy grahams to a B.

Last I drew shapes on the driveway. Sam matched up colors with the cones. We named the shapes as he placed the cones on top.

Day 2

Sam chose this puzzle. He has been avoiding this as a choice because he thought it looked too difficult. We worked it semi-together to avoid it being too difficult.

After we completed the calendar and prayed The Lords Prayer, we read this bug book.

The boys have been collecting bugs, which goes right along with this book. Boys, bugs, best day ever!

I wrote the alphabet on the sidewalk. Sam hopped on it a few times and sang the alphabet entirely too fast. 😉

I love The Seasons of Arnold’s Apple Tree. It’s one of my favorite books. Arnold has quite the imagination.

This is our prewriting book. Sam is loving all the mazes.

To end our day we played UNO. This is one of Sam’s favorites. Games are a great learning activity.

Day 3

My Sam chose a puzzle today for his choice activity. I was just saying to my husband that Sam has really progressed in his puzzle skills. I love watching the evolution of young minds.

After Sam’s choice activity, we completed the calendar, discussed the weather and prayed the Lord’s Prayer.

We finished up the letter B today by making a bus.

We moved onto C and made Chocolate Chip Cookies. If I have little hands helping me, I always have all the ingredients measured out and in bowls. This is less stress and much smoother when it is time to make the cookies.

While the cookies were baking, we read If You Give a Mouse a Cookie.

We built words next. This was NOT an independent activity. I helped Sam very much through this activity.

The last activity of the day was corn painting.

Day 4

Sam chose a puzzle for his first activity. He loves puzzles, and decided to complete it twice. This was awesome, because I had a lot of prep work!

C is for candy!

Next we took a nice assortment of Halloween candy, that I literally bought for our own enjoyment, and alphabetized it.

Harriets Halloween Candy was the book we read to relate to all of our candy activities.

This is a good book to read BEFORE Halloween to discuss over eating candy. I should read it daily.

We had a counting activity next.

I put out the numbers and a bowl of teddy grahams. Sam counted out the corresponding number of bears.

We went outside and found some leaves. Sam glued them to paper. Then I covered the entire thing with contact paper. I was wishing it was after 5 pm so I could have drank while I did this! 😉

The final product was a placemat.

While I drank, I mean made the placemat, Sam worked on 10 pages in his workbook. I needed this time!

To end this day, we played Jenga. Sam loves this game. He kept shaking the table like any normal 5 year old.

Day 5

We didn’t have a warm up activity because I squeezed two days of school together this week.

C is for carrot.

After we made our carrot, we read Coco the Carrot. This is a book about a carrot that escapes the vegetable drawer and becomes a hat maker in Paris. I can totally relate to her need to escape the kitchen. You know what I’m saying?

Next we read Jack and the Beanstalk.

We planted beans next. Of course I told Sam these were magic beans like any good mom would tell her son.

We just used some dry white northern beans.

We made a color and clean car wash for C, next. Sam colored on the cars with washable markers, then he washed them.

This kept him busy for an hour after school, too!

Our last activity was reading a Chair for my Mother.

This is a GREAT book to introduce saving money.

That’s it for the week and for September!
