Happy Monday!!! We are off to great school start for the week. I’m not sure how much school we will be having this week because of harvest, but we are at least starting!!
Sam chose a puzzle for his first activity.

After calendar, weather and prayer, Sam made a caterpillar. We are still working on letter C.

Then we read The Very Hungry Caterpillar.

Next we built a castle for C.

We read Jack and the Beanstalk last week. So, we are finishing up some fun activities to go along with the book.
Take a large plastic bag and put some dried beans in it, any kind will work. Then put a little water in it, and tape it to the window. It will grow, actually our beans have started growing within eight hours.

Then we colored a picture, glued some beans, cotton and leaves to it.

We were busy crafting today!! Next we painted a caterpillar. Sam loved using a marshmallow to paint.

Tasting the letter c was next; Carrot and celery.

To end the day, we played Mancala. We played this twice, and I’m still not sure Sam completely understood. But he had fun, and with more practice, he will get it. 😊

Day 2
Sam chose cubes to start his day. He made patterns and just randomly snapped them together. This is a good fine motor building skill. Activities like this that seem unimportant, actually build strength in little hands so they can write more easily.

C is for Comets. So we read Comets- https://amzn.to/2Rl7M7m
C is also for cars. This race car kit is a favorite of my boys. There are three cars in the box. The child gets to completely design the car by painting and using stickers to customize each car.

C is for cat.

This is a sandpaper cactus.
I took a piece of sandpaper and cut out a cactus. Sam painted it green. Then he painted a dessert background. I was impressed how well he painted the sun and sand. He really enjoyed this free painting.

To continue our Jack and the Beanstalk book theme, Sam counted out beans. I wrote a number on each cup, Sam counted beans for each cup.

Sam completed a page in his prewriting book.

Our last activity for the day was sorting cars. I gave Sam a pile of cars. He sorted them to his own liking. He mostly sorted them by color.

Day 3
I’m not sure if I should say fortunately we had school today, or unfortunately we had school today? Harvest is off to a slow start because of the rain. I want to get this party started!!
But anyway, here we are again.
Sam chose this lace and trace activity to start our day. He really enjoyed this. I remember him hating it last year. The difference a year makes in a kid’s maturity!

School officially starts after we complete the calendar, discuss the weather and pray.
C is for cloud. So we read, It Looked Like Spilt Milk- https://amzn.to/2NoeUg6
Sam made a cloud out of cotton swabs (because I do not buy cotton balls).

C is for Corn. I made these little corn cobs our Of construction paper. I wrote three numbers on one side, and flipped them over and wrote three more on the back. Sam counted out candy corn and then ate more than he should have!

I felt like Sam had not eaten enough sugar, so I let him write letters in Cool Whip.

We played Dominos for our game today.

I would suggest doing this last activity, outside!!
I let the boys have a sensory bin of coffee grounds. The boys LOVED this. It was a disaster, but it was worth it.

Day 4
We only had four days of school this week.
Sam chose these stacking blocks for his warm up activity.

After calendar, weather and prayer we read Cloudy with a Chance if Meatballs-https://amzn.to/2pEaLeA
We played Coffee Shop, next. I gave Sam a pretend menu and told him his choices. I was shocked when he chose coffee!! I added milk and he added sugar. Then he added more sugar. Ha!

Next, we made cupcakes.

While the cupcakes baked, we read: If you Give a Cat a Cupcake- https://amzn.to/2pDbAnR
We played Leaf Bingo outside. We looked for leaves in our yard and crossed off the ones we found. If you live by a park, this could be even more fun!

Sam practiced shapes in his Preschool book, next.
