Farmwife Fashion

You started a blog?

If you would have asked me two years ago what I’d be doing in the winter of 2018, I would have never said, “Oh, I’ll be starting a blog.”

I’m not an excellent writer. I am a wife, a mom and by degree a teacher, but I would never categorize myself as a “writer”. Why am I doing this, then? Well, I’ll give you the same answer I’ve given myself and a few friends…

For years I’ve asked God to direct me in a path that would not only fulfill my soul, but would also help me share things I love, including my love for food and clothes.

So, there I was browsing Facebook right after the New Year. I swear I’m not a scroller on FB.  I’m more of a – look up my memories for the day and check my notifications, kind of girl. But the kids were in bed and Derek (my husband) was watching some movie that I clearly had no interest in, on Netflix. And I was “scrolling”. There is was, the cutest outfit on the cutest lady, and I looked a little closer and I said (in my head), “Hey, I own that sweater. What’s she styling it with?” She was the Living in Yellow lady, and I clicked on her page to further investigate this situation. After purchasing more items than I care to admit and also viewing quite a few items I already owned, I started to ponder. Who is this lady and what’s going on?

After some hardcore stalking, or research, I discovered this term that I’ve heard in passing, Affiliate Links. Now, some people are probably annoyed by AL, but as a expert online shopper, I APPRECIATE them and the fact that people are willing to SHARE where they bought something adorable! Affiliate Links to me were like a dream come true on Pinterest. When I’m in public, I give compliments where they are due, but I never feel comfortable asking someone where they’ve purchased something. HOWEVER, if someone asks me, I’m an open book, “This old thing? I bought it 6 years ago on clearance at Target.”  I’ve also been a Pioneer Woman fan, for a few years. I love Ree. I love that she is a real momma and wife and I can completely relate to her because she is a farm wife. I also share a love for food with her.

I got busy researching the affiliate links idea and chatting with my husband. Should I try this? I was already being asked where I shopped, quite a bit.  If I started a “blog” I could just share with everyone where I shop. Derek gave me the green light. I was SOOOOOO nervous. I’m really not the type of person to share too much about myself on the internet. Yes, I share pictures of our kids with my friends and family and an occasional event, but I didn’t take pictures of my food for social media. So, I created a FB page specifically for this topic: Where to buy what I’m wearing. Then I decided to add how I home school preschool, tips and tricks in life and recipes, because I CONSTANTLY cook.

Three months later, I’m actually starting to feel comfortable discussing this ridiculousness in public. I can sleep again at night! (Well not really, our baby still keeps me up!!) AND I’m actually starting to enjoy this life!!

So that’s it. That’s how it started. To be honest, I still don’t know what I’m doing. I didn’t go to college to learn how to blog!  So, if you dare…join me in this journey, but set the bar real…real low and know that 90% of the time I’m not taking anything serious and I just want to laugh and have fun!!
